Tai Chi Toning 2 DVD Set

DVD #1 – Tai Chi Toning

The main value of Tai Chi is found in how you practice the moves, not in what order you practice them in.

In fact, you can get just as fit, flexible and relaxed – if not more so - practicing a few moves well, as you can repeating the same routine until you’re brain dead.

One of the biggest mental breakthroughs I’ve had as an instructor is to teach not just a routine involving a predetermined set of movements . . .

But instead to take those postures our of the form and have the students practice them as individual exercises – each emphasizing a different aspect of the art!

The core of Tai Chi is found in the fundamentals which govern its performance – not in the choreography, or order of movement – you practice.

Here’s what this program does:

  • teaches an easy warm up routine that will improve your leg strength, increase your range of motion, ease back and shoulder stiffness, and build incredible balance
  • leads you through 8 elemental postures that form the core of the Yang Tai Chi System
  • explains the 12 fundamentals, or principals of movement, which make the difference between correct Tai Chi, and mindless imitation
  • concludes with a relaxing Taoist cool down you can use anytime of the day to instantly calm and center yourself
  • In addition to all that, you’ll be able to answer the following 3 essential questions about breathing (it’s amazing how many long-time students can’t):
    • Why you should breath through your nose instead of your mouth
    • How to determine when to inhale or exhale on any specific movement of any posture in the form
    • Why your exhalations can and should be longer than your inhalations

AND

You’ll learn:

  • which part of the body is always “yin”
  • how to perform the postures at different speeds for different benefits
  • the essentials of correct footwork

If you’re interested in the benefits of Tai Chi, then you need to work on posture, breathing, and fundamentals not memorization.

DVD #2 – The Yang Short Form

I attended the 1st World Taiji Conference in Beijing in 1994.

As part of the program we had Taiji coaches meet us at our hotel every morning for practice and correction of the Yang Short Form.

Their skill was amazing.

It’s difficult for me to put into words what it was like to train with these masters at the beginning of each day, to watch them perform, and then to receive detailed adjustment on each section of the form as we improved day-by-day.

Just by following their instruction and imitating their postures I felt my limbs loosen, my energy increase, and constrictions in my back and shoulders disappear.  I also, thankfully, enjoyed a noticeable deepening of my own sense of intention and centeredness.

Benefits of this Tai Chi Program

  • reduces stress
  • increases flexibility
  • develops leg strength
  • improves balance
  • teaches proper breathing
  • instills a sense of “body flow” for improved health

This program presents the complete form as I learned it in Beijing.

That means you’ll be able to perform, at home, whenever you want to, the complete 24 movement Yang Style Short Form.  This form was developed in the mid-20th century as a way for people to enjoy the health benefits of Tai Chi without years of arduous study under a master.

It includes the core postures of the 108 movement Long Form such as Parting the Wild Horses’ Mane, White Crane Spreads It’s Wings, and Fair Lady Works at Shuttles.

. . . and I've also thrown in a lot of extra BONUSES!

Here's what’s in it:

  • A set of five simple exercises my instructor Chao Chi Liu taught me as a taiji warm up
  • clear instruction in the fundamentals of good practice (note: at a teacher's conference in Virginia I attended a few years ago, one of the instructors taught an entire workshop on the importance of fundamentals vs. choreography in tai chi practice – that’s how central these are to good form)
  • the breathing sequence (it's surprising how many people are never taught this)
  • a Taoist Qi Gong cool down set (begin to get a feel for the material I teach, and the way I teach it, and you’ll soon realize that I’m an unfailing advocate of proper cool downs)
  • Extra - It's all shot from two angles for easy learning!
